I don’t normally write about what I have been doing but I’ve been asked a number of times what it’s like to do what I do, so I thought I’d share some insights.  My life has changed substantially this year, from doing the marketing of the cabins to taking over the operation of them and doing all of the management and bookings.  I did wonder what that would be like, but actually it’s lots of fun and the hightlight of my week, without a shadow of doubt, is arriving on the park where my cabins are, and checking on the swans.  It is well known that swans mate for life and the pleasure that our two lovebirds have given myself and many others is countless.

I have spent many hours, after our cleaning has been done and the cabins are spotless ready for the next guests, sitting on a terrace watching our swans do their dance.  I’ve seen the photos of the swan heart, where their necks entwine, but I’ve never seen the full dance and I have to say it’s truly spectacular.  I only wish I knew how to use my camera so that I could have captured it on film.  Maybe a course or two is in order so I know for next year.

Well this dance has resulted in 8 eggs, which both parents have nurtured for weeks, and we are getting very close to the birth.  So, now my highlight is that of excitement, rushing down to the lakeside to see if there are any developments.

As of yet, there are no Cygnets, but the Daddy swan is even more protective and is doing his bit to protect his girl, her nest and it’s prescious cargo.

As you can see, we also have a family of ducks with six ducklings.  There is also a Herron who calls in now and again, but he was seen off by the Mother Woodhen protecting her young.  Oh, how I love watching nature and this time of year it’s certainly at its best.

We are hoping that the Cygnets will hatch this week in time for the school holidays so all our guests, especially the children, can enjoy them in their earliest days when they are at their cutest.

I will keep you updated and I will also share some thoughts on local places that I love, so if you have one you would like us to feature drop me a message and we will cover it for you.
