Well, you may or may not get sun when you come to visit us in Northumberland but it really doesn’t matter. Our beaches are absolutely fabulous whatever the weather as I’m sure you will have seen from our regular pictures.
Please remember the golden rule of beach etiquette ‘leave only footprints and take only memories’.
Some of the more popular ones are listed below but on your travels explore any others you find and let us know what you think – oh and if you could share your pictures we’d love that, but don’t praise them too much we don’t want the whole country finding out about our unspoilt beaches!!
Seahouses Beach North and South Beach
There’s plenty of beach to choose from here in Seahouses with North Beach offering a long stretch of sandy beach backed by sand dunes providing peace and quiet.
South Beach is more rocky affording some great rock pooling opportunities. You never know quite what you might spot, hermit crabs aplenty and it’s not unheard of to find a starfish.
Holy Island?
We’ve talked about Holy Island in previous posts but it really couldn’t be missed out in our beaches article.
The very most important thing to remember about Holy Island is that it does get cut off and you MUST check the crossing times before setting out – and remember check on returning tides too! You really don’t want to pay for rescue or suffer the embarrassment and damage to your car.
There are pockets of beautiful coastal areas to walk and sit at all around the island. Harbour beach is closest to the shoreside (and has car parking). From this beach you will have stunning views of the priory and you can walk across to Lindisfarne Island too.
Druridge Bay
A beautiful area of beach between Amble and Cresswell, part of the bay is owned privately by the National Trust and within the bay you will find Northumberland Coast Country Park, three miles of gorgeous beach, sand dunes and a fresh water lake.
Alnmouth??
A great spot for bird watching or simply getting away from it all, Alnmouth has a stunning sandy beach and a fantastic bay with some lovely small boats usually bobbing around on it – or no the sand if the tide is out. There are parking facilities and local shops and cafes, the beach is dog friendly too.
