Celebrate the seaside this summer at Berwick-upon-Tweed! Over the weekend of 12th/13th August, the annual Seaside Festival will take place all along Spittal Promenade, where you can enjoy many traditional treats such as Punch & Judy shows, donkey rides and a children’s sandcastle competition. There’ll be food and drink on offer – plus a splashpark, amusement arcade, bouncy castles and all the fun of the fair.

Fancy a family survival adventure? This is the scenario: Your light aircraft has crash-landed in dense forest, miles from civilisation. You have no food, medicine or matches to light a fire. How do you survive? As a family, your challenge is to solve the problems and come out of it alive! But don’t worry – activity leader Bruce Ferguson is well qualified to teach bushcrafts! The event takes place at Kielder Castle on 6th August and booking is essential.

Enjoy a fun day out at the Alnmouth Raft Race on 6th August. You can join in the watery challenge by entering a raft yourself or just watch the adults’ and children’s races. Local coastal skiffs will also be competing, and there’ll be live music, an inflatable pub, street food stalls, marquee with local produce and a visit from the local Lifeboat.

On dates throughout August, visitors to Hay Farm Heavy Horse Centre, on the Ford and Etal Estate, can ride in style in an open-topped carriage, pulled by Scott and Banjo, two of the resident Clydesdale horses. Enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Booking is advised.

Calling all princesses and pirates! Dress up in your finest and get yourself along to Manor Walks and Concordia Leisure Centre in Cramlington on Friday 11th August for a Pirate and Princess Day packed full of themed activities and competitions. Enjoy pirate party games with Captain Jack Sparrow and story telling with Captain Raggy Beard, and there’ll be a visit from Tinkerbell and Princess Ariel, as well as face-painting, fairground rides and a treasure hunt.

Head to Kirkharle Courtyard over the weekend of 12th/13th August for a Summer Food & Craft Fair. Explore a wide range of arts and crafts, and indulge in food and drink by local artists, crafters and food producers.

Get ready for the Northumberland Wings and Wheels Festival, to be held at Eshott Airfield, near Morpeth, over the weekend of 18th-20th August. Performing for the crowds will be Spitfires, Hurricanes, DC3 Dakotas and many more. On the ground, you’ll find a mix of supercars, classic cars, vintage machines and static aircraft. Hear the sounds and watch the scenes of the 1940s as part of the RAF Spitfire base is transformed back to the days of World War II.
