Northumberland’s Castles

Northumberland has more castles than any other county in the UK together with some of the most famous and most haunted.

Alnwick Castle is the home to “Harry Potter” and has some great activities for the children throughout the year.  It also hosts the famous Alnwick Gardens and Treehouse where you can sample local cuisine at it’s best.  The castle itself is open to the public and has a vast array of rooms and artifacts taking you back in time.

Bamburgh castle is one of the largest inhabited castles in the UK, has 21 state rooms that are open to the public and over 2,000 artifacts for you to admire.  It is also nestled on the top of a hill overlooking the beautiful beach and quaint little village.

Chillingham Castle is one of the most haunted in the country, Warkworth sits on a river next to another lovely little village and Dunstanburgh is a ruin overlooking another gorgeous beach and golf course.

There really is something for everyone’s tastes and if you are into archeology you can join in with the team at Bamburgh who gather once a year to excavate.
