Holidays in County Durham

County Durham is made up of peaceful open spaces, an abundance of wildlife, majestic waterfalls, delightful villages, adventure, culture, an array of ancient castles and access to the Yorkshire Dales.

Following in the footsteps of Sir Walter Scott, Dickens and Turner, you will be inspired to explore an exquisite area that has many hidden treasures.  Wander in the woodlands, explore the rivers or take a stroll through one of the quaint market towns, quenching your thirst in one of the plentiful local establishments where you will be guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome.

Teesdale is home to Raby Castle, a 14th Century castle which has been the home to Lord Barnard’s family since 1626.  You can take a guided tour and marvel at the outstanding collections of art, see the workings of a medieval kitchen, or simply wander around the beautiful walled garden and coach house.  There is an outdoor play area for the children where they can see how many deer they can count in the 200 acre deer park.
