Both are historic, individual Market Towns with independent shops, great restaurants and bars and their own attractions, such as Morpeth's Carlisle Park and Sanderson Arcade. Alnwick has the infamous Alnwick Castle, used to film parts of Harry Potter, Alnwick Gardens and Barter Books.
Northumberland has some of the best beaches in the UK, more than 30 miles of mostly wide, sandy beaches, with hidden coves and a wealth of rockpools to explore. Dogs are permitted on nearly all beaches throughout the year.
And of course the thing that sets Northumberland apart from other UK Counties - Castles! Over 70 Castles / Castle sites to visit from Warkworth to Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh to Berwick, from ruins to fully functional with visitor centres, there's a Castle here for you!
A boat trip to the Farne Islands is a trip you won't forget, seeing the UK's largest grey seal colony, as well a a wide variety of seabirds. Another great place to go bird watching is the national nature reserve on Holy Island, or the hides at Druridge Bay, Low Hauxley and Craster.
Check the tide times for a safe crossing over to Holy Island and explore the Priory, the Castle, beach and rockpools and the village itself - don't forget to take a sample of the world famous Lindisfarne Mead home with you.
Some of the larger coastal towns are great places to get active - Beadnell, Seahouses and Amble all host water sport activities, or venture inland to Keilder Water for a host of watersports, cycling trails and walking routes.
Also inland there are Roman forts and archeological sites galore, walk alongside the world famous Roman Wall, visit the tranquil towns or Corbridge and Hexham - Hexham Racecourse is one of the most beautiful courses in the UK if horseracing is your passion.
A spotlessly clean lodge in a good location for coast and country. by Guest

The lodge was spotless. The kitchen however lacked cooking equipment and utensils. Due to present circumstances we felt a need to cook ourselves and it proved a challenge. A few more basic items like a baking tray, whisk, small measuring jug, large spoon.chopping board more than one tea towel , oven gloves serving dishes........ect. It would be a nice touch especially considering the price for a week that there should have been a spare toilet roll ,kitchen roll a few dishwasher tablets.
A fantastic place, in a quiet location and with great facilities by Michael Charlton

This was a fantastic place! Location on the park itself is excellent, and in a quiet area overlooking a small pond (many, many ducks!), as well as a 100 yards or so from a lovely forest walk. The lodge itself has excellent facilities, and is extremely well maintained, with a little welcome gift provided too! Our Border Terrier really enjoyed patrolling the deck whilst we chilled out, or were in the most excellent hot tub... tip: clear night, watch the stars from the hot tub is excellent. Location in Northumberland is really good, and although we brought enough supplies to hunker down in the lodge for the weekend, we did venture into Alnwick and Rothbury, as well as dinner out at the Cook & Barker (walking distance, if it's not howling down with rain). We'll definitely return at some point, as everything was just brilliant.

We stayed at sloeberry Lodge for a long weekend. It is very clean and well appointed. The hot tub was great and reasonably private. The outside deck was enclosed which was great for letting the dog out. We had a great time and would come back. This is our second break with hemera holidays and would also book again with them. Great service.

Nice lodge clean as pictured on web site Android described the only thing that let it down was the mattresses which were not very comfortable. Could do with more play facilities at the further corners of the park for kids. Have used Hemera Holidays before and would use again.

Lovely accommodation, very clean and comfortable with nice touches. However it was not very well equipped. There were no tumblers and only 2 tall tumblers. Theres loads of cupboard space but most are empty! Also map of the site would have been helpful as l had to go looking for the bins and its quite a walk back up towards the entrance when carrying rubbish. A little footpath map would also have been useful. A summary of local places to eat, and places to visit would have been a nice addition.

We had a great stay at Sloeberry Lodge, which was very clean, well equipped and spacious. The decked area was lovely, and the hot tub was a pleasure to use after a days sightseeing. The lodge is in an ideal quiet spot on the park, with the deck overlooking the duck pond. Welcome gift was a lovely thought and very much appreciated. The park is situated in lovely countryside, very peaceful when we were there. In an ideal position to visit many of the beautiful unspoiled places that Northumberland has to offer. The National Trust Cragside estate being one of our favorites, along with Craster & Warksworth. Would love to return sometime to explore more, and would definitely stay in Sloeberry again.

Absolutely fantastic stay at the wonderful sloeberry lodge. On our arrival we had a welcome pack and the lodge was sparkling clean. All the amenities and utensils that we needed we had and the table had been set beautifully ready for our first night. It is a great base for seeing the wonderful sights and beaches that Northumberland has to offer. After a day adventuring we would relax in the hot tub which we thoroughly enjoyed and was so peaceful.and relaxing in the quiet surroundings. Our two dogs loved their early morning woodland walk and we also walked to Nelsons Park Cafe with them for breakfast one of the days. We enjoyed an outstanding meal at the Village Inn a short drive away. You will be spoilt for choice with the local cafe and places to eat. We cannot wait to return, there is so much more of Northumberland that we still want to see.

We stayed in sloeberry Lodge it was lovely although the outside there was a little lake where you sit on the decking but couldn't see anything for the big bushes growing in front of it, felt a bit hemmed in. If this was cut back it would be nice as would be able to see across the lake and see the ducks. Everything else was lovely. The lodge was very clean and you get a little welcome pack which is a nice touch.

I just want to start by saying when reading reviews it is important to remember what the review is for, I was almost swayed by a couple but I am so pleased I didn't change my mind about booking. So, first things first, this is a static lodge, it is not a five star hotel with luxury beds the size of a room etc. So now that is clear, I will move on. Booking was really easy and very straightforward, then there was updates before arrival with guides on travel routes and lodge/hot tub rules etc. On arrival, there was a very thoughtful welcome gift that was a nice touch, the table was laid beautifully and the lodge was clean with attention paid to all touch points, this is something that is really important to me so was good to see. The beds are a bit small but not for the regular static, they were all made up on arrival. The bathroom and on suite from the main were clean too. Bedding and towels were provided as well as some hand soap. There is plenty space for your things and little added touches with cushions, ornaments and pictures etc . There is a pack of instruction manuals that covers everything from the washer dryer to the dishwasher. There is more than enough plates, glasses, cutlery and utensils. The lodge is right next to the Duck pond, funny thing about ducks is that they quack, who knew ;) a lovely piece of nature for those that appreciate it . The terrace space has the hot tub and a table with four chairs, plenty of room there. It does have greenery around it, this is going to divide some people I would expect, for some it may be better to be cut back and down a little and give more view to the pond and surrounding area but it does give a great amount of privacy so we were happy with it, less so the spiders it may encourage right enough. There is a golf course there, that provides free golf and a bar that is 10-15 minutes walk from the lodge with pool table and great friendly people. The Bin area is close to the reception end, easier to do a couple of bin runs in the car throughout the stay. As additional info, things I would recommend taking, pretty much standard for self catering trip. First aid kit, painkillers plasters etc , dishwasher tablets, bin bags, tin foil, oil, red/brown sauce if that is your thing. If you have kids some plastic plates/cups etc and things to keep them occupied. There is a TV in the main living room and in the twin bedroom, there is wifi too and we had no issues with it. There are nice walks around and the surrounding areas are lovely. There is Alnwick which is about 10-15 minutes drive away with plenty of shops and anything you may need or have forgotten , For Harry Potter fans Alnwick Castle was used in a couple of the films and the grounds were featured throughout, it was also used for Robin Hood Prince of Thieves. Overall, we had a great stay, we stayed in a 'luxury lodge' in Scotland the month before, that cost us double the price for just 2 of us instead of 4 and it didn't have even half of the things we had here. We are already looking at booking, the boys for a group golf trip and the girls for hot tub relaxation, win win either way. We could not fault it and have not only recommended it to others, but would be back in a heartbeat.

We spent four glorious days in this wonderful lodge. From the moment we opened the door we knew wed made a great choice. Everything you could need was there including a welcome bottle of Prosecco that we enjoyed in the hot tub. What do you need to take with you nothing, just yourself. Kick back and enjoy the peace and quiet in this amazing lodge. We will be back without a shadow of doubt. Keep up the good work and thank you so much.

On arriving at Sloeberry Lodge following the very clear instructions to find it, we were early, but the cleaners had finished and we were able to access straight away. The lodge is beautifully decorated and very clean. The heating was on so very comfortable. We actualy had to reduce the temperature and even turned the heating off by 6pm as the lodge was so warm. A nice touch was the prosecco choc bars and nibbles left for us. There are cleaning cloths washing up liquid and a little bit of kitchen roll and loo roll but we had taken ours with us. You also need to take any other condiments you need. You will also need toiletries. Towels are provided however if your using the hot tub you may need to take extra with you. Seating in the dining are is spacious. The 2 arm chairs in living room comfortable, however the sofa is a bit uncomfortable gives no support to you. The terrace is taken up a by the hot tub which by the 2nd day was lovely and warm. The pond is barely visible due to the bushes in front. But the ducks swim right up to the terrace. The site itself was a.lot bigger than I thought. There is no shop or bar on site but if you look at the map there is a walk through golf course to Bari Bari bar on the golf course. Check there facebook page as we walked (about 20min stroll) and it was closed. They dont do food but a pizza company will deliver to the bar. This is a very relaxing site and we only had 1 evening and afternoon of listening to someone else's music while they were in the hot tub further down from us, but the evenings are quiet. If you intend to walk around the site at night I recommend a torch as its pitch black. Unfortunately for us it's been quiet cloudy so no dark skies to see planets and stars. We have enjoyed are stay this was our 1st inland Northumberland break rather than staying near the coast but still ended uo at the coast, its central to get inland and coastal. But driving is essential to do anything other than relax or play golf. Hemera holidays were brilliant with our booking and requests highly recommend them too. I would recommend this property and site but come with supplies then you can relax and recharge and chill out.
